It is a very important government affecting our daily life.  I want to be a public servant for those living in our municipalities and help them live their own dreams.

William Woo                       Candidate for Council Member of Englewood Cliffs

Growing up in Englewood Cliffs taught me how caring our community is and what an ideal place our hometown is to raise a family. After I married my wife Catherine, we came back to Englewood Cliffs to start a family of our own. I am volunteering as a member of the Englewood Cliffs Recreation Advisory Board to help expand programs and activities for residents of all ages to enjoy. Our advisoryboard is as diverse as our community, but we all share the common purpose of making Englewood Cliffs an even better place to live.

I am running for Council to continue working to bring our community together with a common vision for the future. I want to create more opportunities for parents, students, seniors and small businesses to collaborate and expand community events, services and programs while putting taxpayers first. As the President of two small businesses with experience in both international and domestic finance and operations, I understand the importance of cost-efficiency and financial planning. Our residents deserve a government that gives them a seat at the table in planning our future and responsibly invested in our shared priorities at the lowest cost to taxpayers.

Nunzio and I know that uniting our community, empowering our residents to get involved and promoting term limits for elected officials will ensure that our local government always has an endless source of fresh ideas and innovative solutions to help provide tax relief while improving the quality of life for every resident.

Liwu Hong                           Candidate for BOE of East Brunswick

Having lived in East Brunswick for 7 years, and while raising three children with my wife, Christina, I feel a responsibility to pay back, to serve the community and to work for the school district as a member of the Board of Education of the Township of East Brunswick.

My educational background includes a Master’s Degree in Organic Chemistry from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah and a Juris Doctor from Seton Hall Law School in New Jersey. I am an attorney at law since 2006, authorized to practice law in NJ, NY, and the Federal District and the Circuit Court of Appeals. While focusing on my own law practice, I also volunteer my pro bono (free) legal services to low-income residents through the Central Jersey Legal Services program.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, I worked as a scientist (Medicinal Chemist) for Schering-Plough Corp. and Merck & Co. for 14 years. My research projects included many life-saving therapeutic areas. I have authored dozens of scientific papers and I was granted four US Patents in the area of medical research. Due to my outstanding research achievements primarily for Hepatitis C virus disease treatment, I won the prestigious President’s Award from Schering-Plough in 2002.

East Brunswick is a great municipality, which is widely diverse. It has a pool of talented parents and prosperous business entities. I am running for the Board of Education because I am committed to serving our school district, and to work for our children, the teachers and support staff. It is my intention to use my knowledge, education and experience to spend our tax money more efficient a, wiser while we keep improving our schools. While I will focus my attention on all levels of schooling, I will devote special attention to our high school to insure that our students are ready for colleges or the trades which our country so badly needs. I will promote the involvement of all parents and companies in our children’s education and integrate all community resources into our school system.  I will work closely with our teachers, educators, students and parents to create the best of the best in NJ. I will take East Brunswick schools to the next level! I also recognize that upon graduation, our children will leave the secure nest that we have built for them. I want to be sure that when they leave they are prepared for the ever changing events that occur outside of East Brunswick. Let’s work together to make sure that they are ready to face the challenges that lie ahead.

As a scientist, a lawyer and a devoted father and husband, I will serve East Brunswick efficiently and I will make East Brunswick schools better for everyone so that we can be proud of our schools and efforts to be better educate our children.

Shannon Peng –  Candidate for BOE Edison

I am a mother of two kids enrolled in the Edison public schools and just like all parents, I want the best education for them. I want to strengthen our schools because I believe a successful education system is one that makes our children strong, not only academically, but physically and psychologically as well. In addition, I want to make sure our tax revenue is spent wisely. The average property tax in Edison went up 50% during the last ten years, but the house value increased less than 5%. Over 60% of our property tax goes to the school district. I want to see that our taxes are improving our school systems as well as increasing our home’s value.

After graduating from University of Chicago with a Master degree in computer science, I have been working as a Senior Software Engineer for 16+ years. My daily job is to reengineer old information systems, identify inefficiencies, and provide solutions.  Also, as an independent candidate who is not endorsed by any party, I serve only for the interest of Edison residents if elected.

I have been talking regularly with Edison residents.  We share the same concerns such as high property taxes, government funding shortage, overcrowded classrooms, as well as issues regarding school buses, computer usage, aftercare programs, and PARCC tests.  These issues will be my priority if I am elected to the Board of Education.

Edison is our town, whether you are a parent who cares most about your children, or a home-owner who cares about your taxes and property values, we are in this together! A vote for me is a vote for improvement. Smart on Taxes, Stronger Students, Strive to Improve!

George Shen,                        Candidate for BOE of Livingston
